Italy 2006 - Santa Margherita Ligure (August 31 - September 4)
A little food poisoning and a broken generator delayed this post, but finally here are some photos from the second part of our trip to Italy.

After our time at Lago Maggiore, we headed to the Riviera.

We stayed in the seaside town of Santa Margherita Ligure.

From there we could take an hour-long walk along the sea to Portofino.

Here's a shot of Portofino's famous harbor.

Ah, the good life

Sophie with Dad back in Santa Margherita

And with Mom

We met up with our friends Valentina, Francesco, and Nicola.

Sophie ate more gelato.

We visited San Fruttuoso (accessible only by boat or foot) and the 12th-century abbey there. It was kind of strange to see so many half-naked people in such close proximity to a monastery, but it turns out the monks are long gone. Now daytrippers arrive by the boatload to swim and scuba dive in the clear waters.

We've stayed here as well, and also in Portofino, but it's been awhile.
