Tico Tales - Irazu Volcano (December 30)
Occasional Tales from our Life in Costa Rica
There are plenty of volcanos to see in Costa Rica, and we're making the rounds of all that are close to San Jose. Our latest trip was to the Irazu volcano, the highest in Costa Rica.

Amy and Sophie are walking across a long dormant crater as they approach the active one.

Irazu volcano - The big crater is filled with rainwater that has turned an eerie shade of green.

"Don't drop me, Mom!"

Jason above the clouds

The drive was half the fun because the countryside looks like this.

Amy thought this was the most charming roadside stand ever. We stopped to buy flowers and sign the guestbook. (The previous entry was by a couple from New Jersey.)

This hotel/restaurant looked awfully charming, too. Maybe next time we'll stop in for lunch.
