Tico Tales - Cutest Hummingbirds Ever
Occasional Tales from our Life in Costa Rica
The month of May was marked not just by Grammy's visit, but also by the arrival of a little hummingbird nest in our backyard. We had so much fun watching the babies grow, and we were proud but sad to see them go.

The nest! We don't want to get too close and anger the mother bird . . .

She was so smart to build her nest right under a big leaf so that the babies were protected from the sun and rain. It's hard to see them in the shade, but the new babies looked just like two little raisins.

Getting bigger . . .

and hungrier . . .

always waiting for mama bird to come with more food . . .

starting to really look like hummingbirds now . . .

so pretty and just about ready to fly. . .

Gone!

Those are some cute pictures, how cool was that? Things to look back on when you leave Costa Rica.

Thank you for sharing your special hummingbird pictures. Don't know if you remember or not but at our house in West Covina we had 3 feeders on the kitchen patio side of our house and went through 5# of sugar a week. It looked like an airport - but even with all that, we never had a nest and it was so interesting to see yours.
