Sophie's 3rd B-day Party!
We finally hosted Sophie's birthday party yesterday at our house. On Friday, Sophie had helped Amy bake a cake and shop for a pinata. Later, she helped her Dad decorate the backyard with balloons. Saturday morning, Sophie woke up early, begged to eat cake for breakfast, and excitedly waited for her friends to arrive.

We were lucky to have a beautiful day, perfect for relaxing in the backyard under the trees.

a little pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey

Time for cake - a big pink one decorated with Reese's PB cups and chocolate chips!

Sophie was thrilled to have everyone sing to her, and she enthusiastically joined in the singing herself. After last year, Sophie is a pro at licking the frosting from the candles.

Mmmmmm . . . cake and ice cream!

Pinata! Amy bought the "non-violent" kind of pinata that opens when the kids pull on attached ribbons. All the adults were teasing Amy about her "gringo" pinata, and Jason especially thought it was lame. Then, on the count of three, all the kids pulled on their ribbons . . . and nothing happened. Jason was only too happy to grab the broomsticks and the kids were thrilled to have the chance to beat away on that pinata. Of course it was way more fun than just pulling strings! So Amy learned her lesson - only "real" pinatas from now on!

Amy, I'm on your side. I would have picked the safe pinata too! I'm terrified somebody is going to get whacked whenever we go to a pinata party....probably why I've avoided having one at my kids' birthdays. I know I'm going to have to get one eventually but I'm holding out as long as possible!:-)
